I have been a General Contractor since 1989.
Below is a brief history of my field of interest and business.
I have been involved with doing custom woodworking and construction since 1975. I did wooden boat work in New York and
Southern California for three and one half years after which I moved to San Francisco. There, I studied and worked on
Victorian and Art Deco homes for 7 years. I was also studying advanced woodworking and producing pieces of custom
furniture. In the early 1980s I spent a summer in Sonoma County constructing a 3,000 sq ft passive solar home with an
owner-builder.
I worked for five months at Beringers winery in Napa Valley where I was hired as a consultant and woodworker to help
convert the upstairs master bedroom into a private reserve wine tasting room.
The opportunity came up to do a renovation of an 1868 home in the town of Fairfield, California. It was originally built by
Captain Waterman, who sailed the clipper ship, Sea Witch. The home was in very deteriated condition. Myself (as a lead
designer, supervisor, & lead carpenter), along with other specialists, spent three years renovating and improving the
property.
I got my General Contractors license near the end of this project.
In the ensuing years I have done numerous remodeling projects and built some new homes, along with more pieces of
custom furniture. One interesting project and challenge was to build a home with the exterior in a Mediterranean style and
the interior in the Art Deco style. The owner loves both styles and asked me to design and build it for him. There are photos
in the portfolio section that show the results.
I have an extensive collection of books and magazines that cover all aspects of construction, electrical, plumbing, and Fine
Woodworking techniques.
My shop is equipped with modern machinery which allows me to build with efficiency and accuracy.
My goals are to make sure the home owner or commercial business will have a finished project that he or she can be proud
of and enjoy for many years.
